JOB TITLE: Business Unit Controller 

 

REPORTS TO: UKP Commercial Director

 

FUNCTION: UKP – Mults, Convenience & E-commerce

 

LOCATION: Laurel House

 

JOB PURPOSE

 

The Business Unit Controller (BUC) is a key member of the UK Packaged leadership team. Working closely with the UKP Commercial Director and Marketing leadership team they will help develop and deliver the 3-year rolling UKP route to market strategy, drive incremental revenue & volume/value growth across a multi-channel customer base.

 

The BUC is a highly visible strategic, commercial leadership role designed to build our internal commercial capability and give us competitive advantage in the market, helping us win with existing and new customers/channels alike through the execution of annual and development of long term strategic plans.

 

The BUC will lead channel/customer development teams to drive channel and account P&L growth using strategic and evidenced based insights, effectively turning these into detailed annual winning plans and strategic 3-year growth strategies, supported by the development of robust business case build and design.  

 

The BUC will knit together the commercial plan for their Business Unit, working in close collaboration with key partners across Supply Chain, Marketing and adjacent functions, creating the winning vision and crucially influencing business decision making, winning hearts and minds through the adoption of a Love the Customer approach and business lens.

 

Before leading the plans successful execution through the effective alignment of cross functional teams and talent and in the continued investment in building high performing commercial teams, such that these plans cut through the competition, generate new and incremental value for our customers their consumers and ultimately delivered in the right financial shape to Nichols.

 

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

*         Develop, evolve and lead the business unit to accelerate channel and customer account growth to deliver the UKP route to market strategy leveraging opportunities to grow volume, revenue, value and distribution utilising:

-        Relationship management to foster deeper more collaborative, strategic relationships at senior levels within key accounts

-        Strategic insights - category, consumer demand spaces & category growth drivers

-        Revenue growth management & PPPA strategies

-        Shopper marketing strategies  

*         Full P&L responsibility for the business unit and all channels including;

-        Strategic staircase 3 year business planning contributing to the 3 year UKP RTM ambition.

-        24 month budget and forecasting (volume & financial) to inform S&OP and IBP.

-        GPRM reporting identifying risks, mitigation and opportunities in year.

*         Lead the business unit customer development teams to develop & deliver:

-        Long term channel strategies and budgets (inc. associated Investment) ensuring effective implementation, management & ongoing performance evaluation

-        In year business unit plans by channel (inclusive of dedicated customer specific account plans) and associated budgets (channel, brand, account and NPI)

-        Fully integrated account specific omni channel shopper marketing activation plans with consideration to key customer events & promotions and evaluating ROI & performance

-        Working with RGM to ensure that robust PPPA strategies are in place (and adjusted as necessary for the channels) with consideration to cross channel impact, proactive channel portfolio management and ownership/adherence to the commercial price file

-        A high performing agile team with a passion for exceeding expectations underpinned by a strong talent pipeline driven by active development plans and role stretch.

*            Building exceptional relationships with UKP Brand Controllers to ensure the rolling 3-year staircase remains “fit for purpose” and aligned to delivering the UKP RTM strategic ambition against internal and external measures or else leading and delivering alternate solutions to ensure corrective actions are taken.

*            Management of top-to-top strategic customer relationships and negotiating complex joint business plans to drive mutual growth agendas 

*            Build effective cross-functional relationships and ensure adherence to processes to unlock value for the customer including but not limited to; marketing, supply chain and procurement.

*            Lead strategic projects (business wide & functional) and be an active member of the Operational Leadership Group 

*         Represent the Business Unit and channels on key governance forums; UKP Leadership Team, NPI Steerco, S&OP, CLT

  • RTM & Channel P&Ls: Volume, Revenue, GP%, NDC, RPBT channel growth
  • Annual & 3 year channel forecast accuracy
  • High performing personal and team development plans
  • Delivery of allocated strategic projects for UKP

TECHNICAL SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

 

*         Advanced commercial acumen and excellent negotiation skills

*         Extensive knowledge of UK soft drinks market including category, product ingredients, packaging and portfolio knowledge & benefits 

*         Extensive knowledge of Revenue Growth Management, PPPA strategies & omni channel shopper marketing strategies

*         Understanding of brand licensing product portfolio and opportunities

*         Understanding of effective PPPA strategies

*         Strong understanding of ESG strategies within an FMCG environment

*         Strong IT skills including all MS Office applications

*         Adaptable, flexible, and resilient

*         Full clean driving licence
